Guby
Role: Board Member
Area: Internet Portals
Dates: 1999-2002 (2y6m)
Location: USA and Latin America

Guby Network Inc was a holding of major regional portals that included Grippo (Argentina), Achei (Brazil), Brújula (Chile), Conexcol (Colombia), Mexico Global (Mexico), and Yagua.com (Paraguay), before they gained independence again.

Guby was funded by Explorador Capital Management and headquartered in Miami, counting with development centres in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Garbarino became Guby's shareholder and board member after selling Yagua.com to them.

Yagua.com was the only Guby portal that was the absolute leader in its market. As such, Garbarino was appointed to travel throughout the continent to improve Guby members' service strategy.

Garbarino and his business partner, Mr. Baez, were also chosen to lead the holding's news service. This resulted in the development of a large Content Management System (CMS), the hiring of new journalists in Paraguay and Brazil (for Portuguese news) and establishing a partnership with international news agencies such as EFE, Reuters and AFP.

Garbarino's technical group also introduced one of the first web-based Internet Relay Chat (IRC) services, at a time when web browsers complied with very few standards and Ajax technology was not yet available.
